Athletic! Athletic! Eup!

It’s time to say goodbye.

Today Athletic showed its thanks to Aitor Ocio, Igor Gabilondo, and Koikili Lertxundi for their service to the club.  All three’s contracts expire on the 30th of next month.

  • Aitor Ocio (who is also retiring from the sport) has been with us for 7 seasons total, and played 117 games wearing the rojiblanco.
  • Igor Gabilondo, who has been with us for 6 seasons, played 174 games wearing the rojiblanco.
  • Koikili Lertxundi, has been with us for 5 seasons, and played 98 games in the rojiblanco.

We wish to thank the three of them for their service to the club and wish them all the best in whatever the future may bring them!

Full-time: Athletic (0) - FC Barcelona (3) Lots of people think that their football clubs are special, or laud them far greater than they actually deserve.  In Mod no. 2’s humble opinion, Athletic is one of the few teams that actually deserves every kind word, every compliment, every trophy.  This team deserves every award out there.   Making it to two finals and not winning either one is a very tough pill to swallow, so what now?  Well…you simply carry on.  It’s normal to be upset after a loss like this, but it doesn’t change how great this club is and will always be.  This season may now be officially over but what we’ve accomplished this season alone is worth so much.  This club could be on the verge of something great, today may not have worked out the way any of us had wanted, but they have shown us time after time why they have the undying support of a region, and why our players feel something for their club that most other athletes never will. Now more than ever aupa Athletic, beti zurekin!
